COVER STORY

 

Our today’s cover girl is WENTI ANGGRAINI, We can call her Wenti. She is at the moment studying at SMK Negeri 1 Samarinda, department of Accountant. She fonds of dancing so much (what kinds of dancing do you like best, Wenti?). As a matter of fact, she likes creation and modern dance so much. That’s why, it’s no doubt that she often gets dispensation from diverse institution to dance; automatically, she often leaves the class for this  purpose.

     This long beautiful hair girl actually has a great suggestion to her principal to conduct an extra curricular (exkul) especially for dancing. In order to develop the student’ activity in dancing field. Nowadays, she only has out side activity in dancing. She does hope, someday, her dream will come true, that is, her school, SMKN 1 Samarinda. Will have an addition ‘exkul’ dancing (we hope so! Wen!)

 Selamat Idul Fitri Mohon Maaf Lahir dan Batin. Kita telah melewati bulan puasa yang merupakan bulan untuk penggemblengan iman dan takwa kita. Kesempatan hari kemenangan telah tiba, oleh karena itu marilah kita saling memaafkan diantara kita. 

Kelahiran PROSPECT yang ke lima kali ini betul-betul sangat membantu kita dalam menyelami bahasa Inggris yang kita anggap sulit. WE HAVE TO SAY THIS

In this artcle, I will show you about 3 things that we, as Indonesian people, should adapt from western culture. As we know, that not all of the “western things” are bad. There are many things we can learn from there, example about their discipline abd great time keeping. But now, I am going to talk a very simple thing that we can learn to enrich our knowledge of English.

1. Say: “ Thank You”

Maybe, you will say that Indonesian culture is more polite than others. But, I will ask you a question for you: “have you ever said thank you to a taxi driver that takes you to school everyday?” or, to the man that always sweeps the floor? I am sure; you rare to say thank you to them because you always think to sample. But western culture, they always say, thank you even to a younger boy. Imagine it!!

2. Say: “I am sorry”

The meaning it is not “I am sorry” as an apology, but “I am sorry”, as a sympathy. From this we then know that “I’m sorry” not only for an apology, but also for showing a sympathy

3. Say : “please”

In western culture, they always say please to the younger, when they ask him/her to do something. Even, if you are older than the one you asked to. So, I suggest you starting saying please when you need help from some else.

Well my dearest reader, I just give you some suggestion that we should adapt from western, If you always do this, I am sure you will be a polite person.

 

Save Your Words

A chatter box could be very voring. He or she never runs out of topics. Anywhere and anytime, he or she will talk about anything. We don’t have a chance to interrupt nor to respond. We can do nothing but listen. Most of us have been through such a situation. Tips of this edition is about how to talk effectively, how to avoid becoming a chatter box.

In our daily life, it is inevitable that we meet people with different characters. Each of them has his or her own style and manner in having conversation. Some are talkative, some are quiet, and some others are bossy.

To be a good speaker or conversationalist and how can we become one? To become a good speaker we have to pay attention to some important points of conversation. Poh Ai Lin in The art Conversing puts forward seven points for us to take into account in a conversation. They are follows:

1. A good conversationalist is not a person who knows what to say and when to say it. He or she has to learn other social communication skill as well.

2. Talking conyinously is not the idea of successful conversation. Being a considerate and active listener is equally crucial. It takes two converse. We need to talk as well as to listen.

3. Express your idea or opinion moderately. Do not sound like as if you knew everiything. If you have to talk about yourself, do it in moderation.

4. Avoid being bossy. An attitude of superiority will soon leave you in isolation.

5. Avoid being gush. To praise is necessary but do not overdo it. If not, you will sound pretentious

6. Stay focus. Avoid being too flowerly. A person who lacks focus and is easily out of the track could be extremely annoying.

7. Read your partner’s gestures. Sighs, increasingly longer pauses, reslessness, decreased eye contact and gradual distancing are indications that your partner wants to end the conversation.

There are a lot more to learn to become a good conversationalist. Hoperfully the above tips will be of much help to all of us.

ENGLISH DAY

To realize that our school must have an excellent, which can differentiate with others; English is regarded as a correct answer for this effort. Because, however, recently, we surely know that English has been widely used by every institution either private or government institution. Wherever we go, we see that, all job seekers, should prepare them selves in mastering English, primary in speaking ability. Because, when they apply for the difficult test is English. In this case, the applicants usually fail because of having no suitable ability to answer the test of English. Moreover, when they have the interview test in English.

     Facing this situation, there are some efforts in our school to make English as our excellent. We have English debate class. Beside, this class is pointed to prepare ourselves in joining the annually PKS (promotion on student skill); it is also for training ourselves in speaking English. We still have another facilities that make us can improve our English like the creation of at mosphere of learning English; where the English teacher speak English very often in delivering the materials to the students. It’s the chance for the students to practice their English. Don’t be hesitatie to convey your idea/opinion in English.

     And now, we have a new penetration. I.e. ENGLISH DAY. Means to say that, all so we (teacher and students) try to use English on a certain day when we are in or out side the class. Don’t make this penetration as a burden. Take it easy. There is no person can say that, what we are talking, is wrong as long as one can understand what we are talking about, go a head. That’s why. Don’t worry to speak English. Whatever we say, say it bravely. Don’t be afraid and don’t care so much about the grammar. The main thing is, we speak first, and the grammar will come when we can speak perfectly.

     We are absolutely sure, that we, the Indonesian people, and spoke Indonesian since we were a baby or even our mother tongue is Indonesian. Who can say that now we can speak Indonesian. Correctly either in grammar or structure? Nothing! So, How about English?? Are we ashamed, when we speak English topsy turvy?? Once more, don’t worry, now we are learning English, It means, there is no problems for us if we make many mistakes in speaking English. Let’s start from very simple conversation, like, greeting (good morning, good afternoon etc). Asking the condition of us; (how are you, how are you getting ion, how are you doing on, are you OK, etc) and the response: (I’m fine, I’m pretty well, I’m Ok, etc). From this, we should be sure, that from time to time our English will be perfect.

     We have to promise to ourselves that I must be able to speak English. And make it as a strong motivation in practicing English. Because, however, by having no motivation all efforts will be in vain. But it is not enough if we only have the motivation. The motivation will give us the benefit when it is applied in our daily life. So, if we have the motivation of practicing our English, but we are still ashamed and or afraid to practice our English; it means that the motivation will give nothing to us.

     So. Welcome to our new penetration, English day. It can be run well, if all of us give a good participation and have the same vision that it is not only for a certain person or group. But it is for us a general. The continuity of our English day is entirely depend on our wilingness. To retain, we can not expect another people to develop it. This for us, not others. Because, if we implement the English day seriously, and then we finally can speak English, how happy we are, we will get the ‘fruit’ of our own effort. That’s why, once more, welcome to English day.

 

 

TIPS TO BE A WELL KNOWN

To be a well known person, it is not a must for you to have a beautiful or handsome. It’s certainly right that having a handsome and cute face can be a well known person. But it is not unabsolute factor. Even if you have handsome face, but you are not impassioned of proper attitude, still people do not have further interest to know you.

You may therefore to consider the following tips as the first steps to be a well known:

1. Have a good care of your being.

Watch up your appearance. By having good appearance, people will be happy to see you and to know you better. Take time to maintain your body.

2. Watch up your attitude

Do everything correctly. Be polite to people wherever and whenever you are.

3. Enlarge your mindedness

4. Easy to smile

All the above mentioned tips will help you to have yourselves. Those are the simple example which I always do everyday.

Have a good try.

 

The School’s Cleanliness

The school’s cleanliness should be done by all of students. Because it’s their duties as students. We can’t ignore about this problem. Because school is a place to study, where we always spend our much time is this place almost everyday. So it’s very important to keep clean in our school. It’s not easy. Because it is needed a height rezones. The students should realize that there are a lot of advantages if their school is clean. The first, the students can concentrate on their lessons. The second, the students can feel more comfortable to study. It’s very important; our school looks so nice in our sight.

     We always hear, the inspector of flag ceremony always talks about the school’s cleanliness in every Monday. To make realize all of students about how important the school’s cleanliness is, our school always holds “a Friday clean”  once a month. And when we celebrate the Independence Day on August 17, the school always hold the cleanliness class competition through this program can make the students realize, how important to keep the school clean and it’s not only to be responsible for the teachers but also the students. The bear froze

The forest was silent

Even the river stopped moving

As a bright! Light shone upon the man. A voice came out of the sky:

“You deny my existence for all of these years; teach others I don’t exist and, even credit creation to a cosmic accident. Do you expect me to help you out of this predicament? Am I to count you as a believer?”

The atheist looked directly into the light: “It would be hypocritical of me to suddenly ask you to treat me as a Christian now, but perhaps could you make the bear a Christian?”

Very well,” the voce said

The light went out

The river ran again

And the sounds of the forest resumed.

And the bear dropped its right paw … brought bots paws together ….bowed its head and spoke:

“Lord, for this food which I am about to receive, I am truly thankful.”

Once upon a time, there was a river. The Nile River, to be exact. On one side of the river lived the rabbit, and on the other side lived the bear. One fine day, the bear was sitting on a stump, enjoying his breakfast of berries. Then he heard someone yelling at him. It was the rabbit.

STORY:

The Greedy Dog

One day a dog found a big fat bone. He picked it up and started running home. On the way  home he a bridge over a stream crasher. Walking over the bridge he saw something in the water. He stopped to look at it.

     When he put his face near the water, he saw himself. The water was like a mirror. The dog did’n not that he was looking at himself in the water.

“That dog has a bone, too” he said to himself

“It’s bigger and fatter than my bone. I want it for myself. I’ll take it from him”.

     Then the greedy dog opened his mouth to bite the dog in the water. When he opened his mouth, of course his bone fell into the water. It went to the bottom of the stream.

     The dog lost his bone and had to go home feeling hungry. The moral of this story is: “Don’t be greedy”.

To Succeed

To reach success is most people’s ideals. There are severing always to gain success. The following are for tips to reach it.

Firstly, we have to be disciplined, means that we will not stop working until we are able to finish our duty. Discipline is indeed hard to do. However, we have to struggle to achieve it. Discipline is important, because by being discipline we can finish most of our tasks on time. However, if we fail to fulfill our duties, we should keep trying. Don’t be desperate, because giving up will lead us into failure.

Secondly, we have to know our goals into future. Goals are essential. Without them, we do not know what we pursue. As a result. We will do something for nothing. With clear goals, we can finish our task more efficiently.

     Thirdly, after we have determined our goals, we must set up plants. Planning is a good way to reach our goals. We can plan the time we need to finish our tasks. However, making good plans is not easy to do. We need to practice being able to set up plans.

Fourthly, we must be honest to ourselves and to others. We should realize our own ability. This is very important. Without realizing our weaknesses and strengths, we can not finish our tasks carefully. Knowing our weaknesses also helps us to decide whether we need someone else’s help or not. If we believe that we can’t not finish a task by ourselves, we must not force ourselves to finish a task by ourselves; we must not force ourselves to finish it. We should ask others to help.

Hopefully, those four tips will help us to reach success. However, we must remember that success depends on our efforts. God bless us!!

 

To Enjoy Life

 For some people, life is boring. It seems that nothing can make them happy. Some other peoples. However, find life very exciting. They can find joys wherever they are. It seems that peoples in this category really enjoy life. The following, are tips to enjoy life:

1. Try to get up earlier than others

2. Do some exercises, such as jogging and aerobics

3. Try to always smile are everyone

4. Laugh at least to minutes a day

5. Relax in all situations

6. Always think that everything is challenging and exciting

7. Never think about someone else’s badness’s

8. Take a holiday out of town at weekends

9. Listen to soft music while you have a rest

The tips are simple. However, if we really apply them we will be glad to see the positive effect.
